News Release 10/18/2024

On the afternoon of 10/11/24, Red Lake County deputies responded to a non-injury, two-vehicle crash on Main Ave. in Red Lake Falls. A northbound vehicle stopped on Main Ave., awaiting traffic to clear, so they could turn onto Bottineau Ave. Another northbound vehicle, driven by Samantha Jo Lynn Tofstad (37) of Red Lake Falls, collided with the back end of that vehicle. Both vehicles were substantially damaged, and Ms. Tofstad was cited for inattentive driving and no current motor vehicle insurance.

On the afternoon of 10/11/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle stopped in the turning lane near the intersection of CR. #13 and CR. #19 west of Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy located the vehicle and found the car was stopped there because two juvenile occupants were having a verbal argument. Their parents were contacted to come to the scene and the juveniles were released to them. No crimes were committed, and no charges will be filed.

On the evening of 10/11/24, Colleen Leeanne Rushman (32) of Cass Lake was cited for speeding on Main Ave. in Red Lake Falls.

On the evening of 10/11/24, a female juvenile from Thief River Falls was cited for speeding on Main Ave. in Red Lake Falls.

In the early morning hours of 10/12/24, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office reported they arrested John James Nogowski (36) of Thief River Falls. Red Lake County held an active misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Pennington County advised they had charges pending against Mr. Nogowski, so a hold was placed and Red Lake County will be notified when those matters are settled.

On the afternoon of 10/12/24, Kristina Anne Lembke (47) of Grand Forks was cited for speeding on CR. #49 east of CR. #12.

On the evening of 10/12/24, Kelly Ray Brecht (60) of Buffalo, MN was cited for speeding on CR. #5 north of Oklee.

On the morning of 10/13/24, the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office reported they arrested a juvenile male from Red Lake. Red Lake County held an active misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. The juvenile posted $50 cash bail to satisfy the warrant, and he was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls on 10/16/24.

On the morning of 10/14/24, Red Lake County deputies, the Red Lake Falls Ambulance and the Red Lake Falls Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. #32 south of Red Lake Falls. A Minnesota State Trooper also responded to the scene. There were no injuries, but a pickup that was struck by a semi-truck was severely damaged. The Minnesota State Patrol is handling the crash investigation.

On the afternoon of 10/14/24, Blake Roger Tvedt DeHate (28) of Plummer was cited for speeding on CR. #1 east of Plummer.

On the afternoon of 10/14/24, Jaye Allan Pyatte (32) of Red Lake Falls was arrested for violating the terms of his supervised probation. He was taken to jail in Crookston.

On the morning of 10/15/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a grain dryer was on fire. The Oklee Fire Department and Oklee Ambulance were dispatched to a farmyard in Garnes Township.

On the morning of 10/15/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible missing person. A Red Lake County deputy located the individual at a Red Lake Falls residence, and all was ok.

On the evening of 10/15/24, a Red Lake County deputy spoke with a Red Lake Falls resident who had been receiving some harassing text messages. Advice was given.

On the evening of 10/15/24, a Red Lake Falls resident reported they had been involved in a domestic dispute and they were holding their girlfriend hostage. Red Lake County deputies responded, and found the reporting party had fabricated the report. The girlfriend was present at the scene and denied being held against their will. Preston Dean Altendorf (24) of Red Lake Falls was cited for misdemeanor false reporting a crime.

On the morning of 10/16/24, Scott Joseph Hebert (59) of Thief River Falls was cited for speeding on CR. #1 east of Plummer.

On the afternoon of 10/16/24, the Plummer Legion reported they received some Account Closed checks from an individual. That report is still under investigation.
