News Release 05/31/24

On the afternoon of 05/24/24, the Dollar General Store in Red Lake Falls called and requested assistance in removing some unwelcomed customers. A Red Lake County deputy responded, removed the unwanted parties, and officially trespassed them from the store.

On the evening of 05/24/24, a Red Lake County deputy stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on Hwy. #59 in Plummer. The driver, Wayne Kenneth Alten (55) of Plummer was cited for illegal window tint.

On the afternoon of 05/25/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that two individuals were fighting at the Mall in Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy responded and found the altercation had concluded before their arrival. The deputy spoke with both parties and determined that Chad Wayne Smitch (45) of Red Lake Falls, and Shannon James Anderson (54) of Red Lake Falls, had been brawling in the Mall hallway prior to the deputy’s arrival. Both men were cited for misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and they were separated.

On the evening of 05/25/24, an Oklee resident reported a disturbance that occurred at the Pit south of Oklee in Lambert Township earlier that day. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with involved parties and some witnesses. It was determined that two individuals got into an altercation over a dog getting loose and attacking another dog. Jayden Valdez (19) of Fargo and Brenton Troy Gerholdt (39) of Oklee were both cited for misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

On the afternoon of 05/26/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible animal neglect at an Oklee residence. A Red Lake County deputy responded and spoke with the pet owner. It was determined that no crimes had been committed and the matter was resolved.

On the afternoon of 05/27/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dog running out of a yard and attempting to attack another dog on a street in Red Lake Falls, while being walked by their owner. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with the party who was walking their dog, the alleged victim, and they claimed it was not an issue and requested no further action be taken.

On the afternoon of 05/27/24, the Dollar General Store reported they were having an issue with a customer causing problems with an employee at their store in Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy responded, and the customer had left prior to their arrival. Staff at the store told the deputy it was a misunderstanding, nothing criminal occurred and the issue resolved itself.

On the evening of 05/27/24, an Oklee resident reported damage to their property. That report remains under investigation.

On 05/28/24, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Matthew Colin Singletary (34) of Oklee with felony malicious punishment of a child under the age of four. The complaint alleges Mr. Singletary used unreasonable force to discipline his child, who was under the age of four, causing visible injuries to the child. This occurred earlier in May of 2024 in the city of Oklee. He will be summonsed to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls in June of 2024.

On the morning of 05/28/24, a Plummer resident reported being harassed by another individual. The incidents were documented, and advice was given. The case remains under investigation.

On the morning of 05/28/24, an Oklee resident reported they were a victim of a scam and suffered a monetary loss. That report is still under investigation.

On the evening of 05/29/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a large dog jumped into the Clearwater River southwest of Plummer, and it could not negotiate the steep bank to get out of the water. Red Lake County deputies, Plummer Fire Department and Red Lake Falls Fire Department responded to the scene. A rescue boat was deployed, and crews were able to get the dog safely to shore.

On the evening of 05/29/24, a Plummer resident reported that some individuals were yelling at them and harassing them while they were out in their yard. The suspects left the scene prior to the deputy’s arrival.

On the evening of 05/29/24, a Red Lake Falls resident reported a disturbance at their residence. Red Lake County deputies responded and found that Suzanne Sylvia O’Neill (36) of Plummer was banging on a door trying to get the attention of the occupant. It was discovered that she was intoxicated and had driven a vehicle to that residence. She was arrested, taken to jail in Crookston and booked for gross misdemeanor DWI. She was released from custody the following morning.
