News Release 03/15/24

On the afternoon of 03/08/24, a Red Lake County deputy responded to Brooks to assist a parent with an unruly child. The deputy spoke with the parent and child. Advice and counseling were given, and the situation was mediated.

On the evening of 03/08/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that an intoxicated individual left an establishment in Plummer, and they were driving a vehicle. A Red Lake County deputy located the suspect vehicle on Hwy. #59. The vehicle was stopped on Hwy. #59 south of Brooks for unsafe driving conduct. The driver, David John Wilde (42) of Fosston, was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested, cited for misdemeanor DWI, and was released from custody the following morning.

In the early morning hours of 03/09/24, a Red Lake County deputy responded to a domestic disturbance at a Louisville Township residence. It was discovered that no crimes had been committed and the situation was mediated.

On the evening of 03/09/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of some individuals trespassing at a vacant house in Plummer. Red Lake County deputies responded and found some juveniles in the area. The kids were counseled and sent home.

In the early morning hours of 03/10/24, a victim of a domestic assault came to the Sheriff’s Office. Red Lake County deputies spoke with her and had the Red Lake Falls Ambulance respond to assess her injuries. She was treated but refused transport to the ER. The deputies then went to a Red Lake Falls residence and arrested David Jesse Lucio Jr. (41) of Crookston. Mr. Lucio was taken to jail in Crookston, and he was booked for misdemeanor domestic assault. Mr. Lucio appeared in Court in Crookston on 03/12/24. He posted $300 cash bail and was released from custody. He was released with several conditions, including having no contact with the victim.

On the afternoon of 03/10/24, a Red Lake County deputy spoke with a Red Lake Falls resident about some junk and refuse on their property. The homeowner agreed to get it cleaned up and removed soon.

On the afternoon of 03/12/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of individuals harassing each other in the city of Oklee. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with the involved parties and advice was given.

On the afternoon of 03/12/24, a Red Lake County Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the city of Red Lake Falls. The vehicle refused to stop and fled from the deputy, leaving town on CR. #13. The deputy pursued the vehicle into Pennington County, but lost sight of the suspect vehicle. Officers from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and the Thief River Falls Police Department also assisted, but they were all unable to locate the vehicle. This incident remains under investigation.

On the evening of 03/12/24, a Red Lake County deputy spoke with some young kids who were playing on a street in Red Lake Falls. The children agreed to move from that location.

On the evening of 03/12/24, a Red Lake County deputy responded to a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex in Red Lake Falls. An individual was counseled about their behavior and the situation was resolved.

On the evening of 03/12/24, a Red Lake County deputy stopped a vehicle on Hwy. #59 in Plummer. A passenger in the vehicle, Ernest Joseph Shimpa (60) of Plummer, was cited for a misdemeanor cannabis open package law violation.

On the afternoon of 03/13/24, Red Lake County deputies responded to the Plummer School to assist school staff with a student who was acting unruly and appeared to be having a mental health crisis. The child’s parent was also at the school trying to assist. A Red Lake County deputy transported the juvenile to the Sanford ER in Thief River Falls to be evaluated by a mental health professional.

On the evening of 03/13/24, Red Lake County deputies responded to Brooks because a juvenile female left her residence to get away from her sister who was causing her problems. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with the girl, mediated the situation, and returned her to her residence.

On the morning of 03/14/24, a Brooks resident reported getting harassed. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with that individual and advice was given.

Red Lake County held an active felony warrant for Lane Allen Anderson (27) of Red Lake Falls. On the evening of 03/14/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received information that Mr. Anderson was at a Motel in Grand Forks, ND. The Grand Forks Police Department was contacted, and they were able to locate Mr. Anderson and arrest him. The Grand Forks Police Department also has criminal charges pending against him, so he remains in custody in Grand Forks at the time of this release.

On the evening of 03/14/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic disturbance at an Oklee residence. Red Lake County deputies and a Minnesota State Trooper responded to the scene. It was discovered that Landon James Ales (26) of Thief River Falls had threatened and assaulted an individual at the residence. He was arrested, taken to jail in Crookston and was booked for felony threats of violence and misdemeanor domestic assault.

In the early morning hours of 03/15/24, a Red Lake County deputy arrested Randy Ryan Hicks (68) of Red Lake Falls for causing a disturbance at an apartment complex in Red Lake Falls. Mr. Hicks was taken to jail in Crookston and was booked for misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
