News Release 09-15-23

Just before noon on 09/08/23, Red Lake County law enforcement, Red Lake Falls Ambulance and the Red Lake Fire Department responded to a report of an ATV rollover crash on Harren Dr., east of Sportsman’s Park in Red Lake Falls. Laurence Forrest Larson (79) of Red Lake Falls was westbound on Harren Dr., operating an Arctic Cat Wildcat SP, and it left the roadway, went into the north ditch and overturned. Rescue crews were able to get Mr. Larson out of the overturned ATV. He was treated for minor injuries at the scene but refused transport to the hospital. The Fire Department was able to get the ATV out of the ditch and they brought it to his residence. The ATV was moderately damaged.

On the evening of 09/08/23, a Red Lake Falls resident reported a theft of property. That report is still under investigation.

On the evening of 09/08/23, a Red Lake Falls resident reported that another individual was playing music very loud, disturbing the peace on Broadway Ave. NE. A Red Lake County deputy responded, counseled the individual who was playing music and they agreed to turn it down and the matter was resolved.

In the early morning hours of 09/09/23, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an individual lying on the roadway, near a vehicle at the intersection of Hwy. #59 and CR. #49 in Poplar River Township. A Red Lake County deputy went to that location and the Oklee Ambulance was also dispatched. It was discovered that the individual was extremely intoxicated but was not injured. The Oklee Ambulance transported them to the ER in Fosston. A Minnesota State Trooper was also at the scene and the State Patrol is conducting the investigation.

On the evening of 09/09/23, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a person who was concerned about the welfare of a female at a Lambert Township residence. Red Lake County deputies responded and found the female had been in a verbal dispute with her boyfriend, who was also at the residence, but no crimes had been committed. The female requested to leave the residence for the night, and she was brought to Thief River Falls by one of the deputies.

Shortly after midnight on 09/10/23, a Garnes Township resident reported when they arrived at their residence, an unknown vehicle was there in the yard, and it sped away in a hurry. The caller’s son attempted to follow the vehicle but was unable to keep up with it. They were unable to give law enforcement a good description of suspect vehicle, but nothing appeared to be missing. This matter remains under investigation.

On the afternoon of 09/10/23, a Red Lake Falls resident reported that he and his girlfriend were being harassed by another individual. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with the reporting party and advice was given.

On the afternoon of 09/12/23, Hillcrest in Red Lake Falls reported that one of their dementia patients had wandered and left their facility. Red Lake County deputies located the elderly male within a few minutes, nearby. The patient had been refusing to take his prescribed medications and was also refusing to eat, so the Red Lake Falls Ambulance was called to transport him to the Sanford ER in Thief River Falls.

On the evening of 09/13/23, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in the city of Plummer. Red Lake County deputies responded and found that the suspect had left the residence prior to their arrival. A female claimed that Justin Michael Schue (40) of Red Lake Falls had assaulted her at her home. Red Lake County deputies located Mr. Schue in Red Lake Falls later that evening. He was arrested, taken to jail in Crookston and booked for felony domestic assault.

On the morning of 09/14/23, the city of Red Lake Falls reported that a vehicle had crashed into a tree and had also damaged some other property at Sportsman’s Park in Red Lake Falls. This case is still under investigation.

On the afternoon of 09/14/23, Red Lake County deputies went to a residence in Brooks to attempt to arrest Jobie Lee Gutzmer (53) of Brooks. Ottertail County and Polk County held active warrants for his arrest. Mr. Gutzmer was located and placed under arrest. While deputies were in his residence, they observed that he possessed firearms. Mr. Guztmer’s criminal conviction history prohibits him from possessing firearms. The firearms were seized and removed from the home. Mr. Gutzmer was transported to jail in Crookston, was booked for the outstanding warrants and for felony possession of firearms by a prohibited individual.

On the afternoon of 09/14/23, Jason Andrew Borchardt (49) of Muskego, WI was cited for misdemeanor no proof of current motor vehicle insurance on CR. #11 west of Red Lake Falls.

On the evening of 09/14/23, Jaye Allan Pyatte (31) of Red Lake Falls was cited for speeding on CR. #11 west of Red Lake Falls.

On the evening of 09/14/23, the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office reported that Hailey Lynn Denomie (24) of Mahnomen, posted $500 cash bail to satisfy an active misdemeanor warrant that Red Lake County held. She was released from custody, and she has been scheduled to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls on 09/27/23.
