News Release 08-25-23

On 08/16/23, Nicholas Walter Johnson (35) of Red Lake Falls was cited for misdemeanor public nuisance for violating the city of Red Lake Falls’ property maintenance ordinance.

On the morning of 08/17/23, Red Lake County law enforcement observed a man, holding a sleeping bag, walking on CR. #11 near Brent’s Food Pride in Red Lake Falls. Law enforcement spoke to the individual and he claimed that he was looking for a ride to Crookston. He was given a ride to his requested destination.

On the morning of 08/19/23, Red Lake County deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at a farmyard in Lambert Township. Two individuals were having a dispute over the use of a grain bin. Deputies counseled the involved parties, and the situation was mediated.

On the evening of 08/19/23, Miranda Lynn Anderson (32) of Lake Park, MN was cited for speeding on Hwy. #59 south of Plummer.

On the afternoon of 08/20/23, the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office reported Travis Roy Johnson Sr. (38) of Ponemah was scheduled to be released from their jail. Red Lake County held four separate warrants for his arrest. The warrants were for felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, gross misdemeanor DWI’s, gross misdemeanor domestic assault, misdemeanor obstructing and several other misdemeanor level crimes. All these crimes occurred within Red Lake County in 2020 and 2021. A Red Lake County deputy transported Mr. Johnson from Roseau to jail in Crookston. He appeared in Court in Crookston on 08/21/23 and he was released from custody after he posted $1,500 cash bail. His next court appearance has been scheduled for 08/30/23 in Red Lake Falls.

On the afternoon of 08/20/23, Red Lake County law enforcement, the Oklee Ambulance and the Plummer Fire Department were dispatched to an ATV crash on CR. #126, northeast of Plummer. Three juveniles were riding the ATV on a gravel road, and it flipped over while they were negotiating a turn. One of the occupants was taken to the ER, by a parent, to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

On the afternoon of 08/22/23, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office reported they had arrested Benjamin Gerald Owen (40) of Thief River Falls. Red Lake County held an active felony warrant for his arrest. Mr. Owen was turned over to a Red Lake County deputy and he was taken to jail in Crookston.

On the afternoon of 08/22/23, a Plummer resident reported a possible burglary. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with the reporting party and determined the report was unfounded.

On the evening of 08/22/23, Cory Matthew Johnson (38) of Buffalo, MN was cited for speeding on CR. #11 west of Red Lake Falls.

On 08/24/23, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Jaye Allan Pyatte (31) of Red Lake Falls with felony theft and felony property damage. The criminal complaint alleges Mr. Pyatte removed a catalytic converter from a Ford Pickup without the owner’s consent. The value of the catalytic converter and the damage to the vehicle were both over $1,000. The theft and property damage occurred in the city of Red Lake Falls in late June or early July of 2023. Mr. Pyatte will be summonsed to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls sometime in September of 2023.

On 08/24/23, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Jerrold Darwin Asp (54) of Red Lake Falls with felony possession of a firearm. Mr. Asp was prohibited from possessing a pistol because of a previous conviction of a crime of violence. In July of 2023, members of the Pine to Prairie Violent Crime Enforcement Task Force, Red Lake County deputies, Pennington County deputies and Thief River Falls Police Officers executed a search warrant at Mr. Asp’s Red Lake Falls residence. Several firearms, including pistols, muzzle loaders and a shot gun, several firearm magazines, live ammunition rounds, other personal items and cash were seized. During the execution of the warrant, Mr. Asp experienced a medical emergency, so the Red Lake Falls Ambulance responded and transported him to the Sanford ER in Thief River Falls for treatment. He will be summonsed to face this charge at a court hearing in Red Lake Falls sometime in September of 2023.

Just after midnight on 08/25/23, Nathaniel Daniel David Tollefson (23) of St. Hilaire was cited for misdemeanor no valid driver’s license on Bottineau Ave. in Red Lake Falls.
