NEWS RELEASE 03-03-23

On 02/23/23, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Sarah May Burthwick (33) of Red Lake Falls with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and misdemeanor violation of a harassment restraining order. The criminal complaint alleges Ms. Burthwick committed these crimes at the Hockey Arena in Red Lake Falls on 11/21/22. She will be summonsed to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls to face these charges in March of 2023.

On the afternoon of 02/25/23, Blaine William Schmalz (69) of Lancaster was cited for speeding on Hwy. #59 north of Brooks.

On the evening of 02/28/23, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a young child had accidentally ingested some THC gummies. A Red Lake County deputy responded to the Poplar River Township residence. The Oklee Ambulance was also dispatched. The child was taken to the Sanford ER in Thief River Falls by private party. The toddler was treated at the hospital and was discharged the following day. The incident remains under investigation.

On the afternoon of 03/02/23, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that an unruly customer had threatened an employee at the Dollar General Store in Red Lake Falls. The customer had left the store prior to the report, but store manager did not want them to return. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with the customer and advised them that they were trespassed from the store and the matter was resolved.
