On the afternoon of 08/25/22, a Red Lake Falls resident reported they were a victim of an assault and property damage. That report remains under investigation.

In the early morning hours of 08/27/22, a Garnes Township resident reported they believed someone may have trespassed and entered a building on their property. A Red Lake County deputy responded and their investigation revealed no signs of intrusion.

On the afternoon of 08/27/22, Kobyn Taye Chamberlain (21) of Dammeron Valley, UT was cited for speeding on CR. #13 west of Red Lake Falls.

On the afternoon of 08/27/22, the Dollar General Store in Red Lake Falls reported that a customer was causing a disturbance at their store. A Red Lake County deputy responded and found that the individual had left the property prior to their arrival. It was discovered the customer was rude to the Dollar General employee, but no crimes had been committed and the matter was closed.

On the afternoon of 08/29/22, a Red Lake Falls resident reported vandalism to their property. That case is still under investigation.

On the morning of 08/30/22, the Red Lake County Central School in Plummer reported vandalism to their facility. The goal posts, some bleachers, and the press box building at the football field had been painted with blue spray paint. Investigation into the incident revealed that a Plummer juvenile and two juveniles from Oklee were responsible for the damages. All involved juveniles attend the RLCC High School in Oklee, so the matter was referred to the school administration for enforcement of discipline.

On 08/30/22, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Malachi Jewlius Burthwick (18) of Oklee with felony theft. The criminal complaint alleges he stole almost $7,000 in cash from the E&J Grocery Store in Oklee, while he was employed there from January 2022 through June 2022. Mr. Burthwick will be summonsed to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls sometime in September of 2022.

 

On the evening of 08/31/22, a Red Lake County deputy was investigating a report of a disturbance at a residence in Red Lake Falls. When the deputy approached the property owners, who were outside of their house, their dog attacked the deputy, causing minor injuries to his arm. The deputy was treated by Red Lake Falls Ambulance staff but was able to remain on duty. The disturbance report ended up being just a misunderstanding, but the dog attack aspect of the case remains under investigation.

On the evening of 08/31/22, Noah Arthur Hanson (18) of Brook was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Red Lake County held an active misdemeanor warrant for the arrest of Janella Rose Rude (41) of Plummer. On the afternoon of 09/01/22, she was arrested at her residence by Red Lake County law enforcement. Ms. Rude posted a $100 cash bond to satisfy the warrant and she was released from custody. Her next court appearance was scheduled for 09/14/22 in Red Lake Falls.

On the afternoon of 09/01/22, Justin Glenn Howard (41) of Strathcona was cited for expired motor vehicle registration on Hwy. #59 south of Brooks.

On the evening of 09/01/22, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office reported they had information that Lane Allen Anderson (26) of Thief River Falls was at a residence in Red Lake Falls and they held an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant was for violating the terms of his supervised probation. A Red Lake County deputy went to the residence and arrested Mr. Anderson. He was turned over to Pennington County authorities.

On the evening of 09/01/22 Varonnicia Starr Varela (22) of Panama, OK was cited for speeding on Hwy. #92 south of Oklee.

On the evening of 09/01/22, a Red Lake County deputy discovered some individuals setting up camp at the Gravel Pit south of Oklee. They were advised that the area is owned by Red Lake County and camping is not permitted. They agreed to leave the area.

On the evening of 09/01/22, a Red Lake County deputy stopped a vehicle for a moving violation near the intersection of Hwy. #59 and CR. #1 in Plummer. Investigation during the stop led to the discovery that the driver, Christina Marie Anderson (40), showed signs that she was impaired by controlled substances. She was placed under arrested and was booked for misdemeanor DUI. She was released from custody later the same evening.

 

On the morning of 09/09/22, a Red Lake County deputy mediated a dispute between parties in the city of Red Lake Falls. There was a disagreement over money owed to an individual. The issue was resolved and the matter was closed.

On the afternoon of 09/11/22, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of illegal dumping along CR. #5 north of Oklee. That matter remains under investigation.

On the morning of 09/12/22, the Huot Park Board reported some issues with campers, abandoned property, and garbage in the park. A Red Lake County deputy assisted a Park Board Member with removing the abandoned property and clean-up the area.

On the morning of 09/13/22, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office reported they had arrested Austin Lee Garceau (29) of Thief River Falls. Red Lake County held an active gross misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Mr. Garceau had allegedly violated the terms of his supervised probation. A Red Lake County deputy went to Thief River Falls and then transported Mr. Garceau to the jail in Crookston. He made a court appearance on 09/14/22 and he was released from custody.

On the evening of 09/13/22, a juvenile female from St. Hilaire was cited for speeding on Hwy. #32 south of Red Lake Falls.

On the afternoon of 09/15/22, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance with a sexual assault investigation. That investigation is ongoing.

On the afternoon of 09/15/22, Juan Carlos Martinez-Hernandez (31) of Pipestone, MN was cited for speeding on Hwy. #32 south of Red Lake Falls.

On the afternoon of 09/16/22, the Lafayette High School reported a school bus stop-arm violation had occurred along CR. #13 on the north end of Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy investigated the incident and issued a citation to Danny Gordon Taylor (63) of Grand Rapids for the misdemeanor stop-arm violation.

On the evening of 09/16/22, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of harassment. The victim is a Red Lake Falls resident and the matter remains under investigation.

On the afternoon of 09/17/22, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report from an individual who claimed another vehicle struck their vehicle, at the intersection of Hwy. #59 and Hwy. #92 in Brooks. They stated the suspect vehicle fled the scene without stopping. No injuries were reported and the damage was minor. This incident is still under investigation.

On the evening of 09/17/22, a Red Lake County deputy stopped a vehicle on Main Ave. in Red Lake Falls for an equipment violation. During the interaction with the driver, the deputy suspected they were under the influence of an illegal controlled substance. Sarah May Burthwick (33) of Red Lake Falls was arrested, taken to the jail in Crookston, and booked for misdemeanor DUI. She was released from custody the following day.

On the afternoon of 09/18/22, Brendon Gregory Klaven (20) of Thief River Falls was cited for speed on Hwy. #59 south of Brooks.

On the evening of 09/18/22, Gage Eugene Umhauer (31) of Warroad was cited for speed on CR. #1 east of Plummer.

On 09/19/22, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office reported they had arrested Michael Gregory Mortenson (36) of Thief River Falls. Red Lake County held two active misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. Mr. Mortenson posted a $100 cash bond to satisfy the warrants and he was released from custody. His next court appearance was scheduled for 10/12/22 in Red Lake Falls.

On the evening of 09/20/22, A Red Lake County deputy investigated a report of a possible Court-Order Violation that occurred in the city of Red Lake Falls. That matter remains under investigation.

On the evening of 09/20/22, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible child endangerment and child neglect in the city of Red Lake Falls. That matter remains under investigation.

On the afternoon of 09/21/22, a Red Lake County deputy responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a school bus on International Dr. in Red Lake Falls. No injuries were reported and damage to the vehicles was minor.
