Governor Walz, currently at the Democratic National Committee’s counter-convention in Milwaukee, joined the Biden campaign in criticizing Trump’s connections to Project 2025. They emphasized the risks posed by Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, regarding plans to ban abortion nationwide and restrict access to in vitro fertilization and contraception.
As chair of the Democratic Governors Association, Walz has been a prominent advocate for reproductive freedom, empowered by the 2022 election that secured a trifecta for the DFLers in the Minnesota Legislature. Trump, defending the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade during a debate with President Biden, argued that it returned the issue to the states, a point Democrats argue allows some states to impose total abortion bans.
