Ramsey County: Warwick Man Sentenced for Sex Abuse

RAMSEY COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A Warwick man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for sexually abusing two people, including a child and an incapacitated person.

According to court records, Jourdain Jaden Smith, 26, pleaded guilty in April to two charges — sexual abuse of an incapacitated victim and sexual abuse of a minor. In exchange for the plea, two other charges — aggravated sexual abuse by force and possession of materials involving the sexual exploitation of minors — were dismissed.

Prosecutors said the abuse occurred between January and December 2020, when Smith engaged in sexual acts with a girl who was between 12 and 16 years old. The indictment also stated that on October 19, 2021, Smith had sexual contact with another person who was incapable of giving consent at the time. Both crimes took place on tribal lands in North Dakota.

Smith was sentenced to serve 240 months, or 20 years, in federal prison and will receive credit for time already served. Court documents indicate that he has been in custody since around August 2023, which may give him more than two years of credit toward his sentence.

After completing his prison term, Smith will be placed on supervised release for 25 years. He will also be required to comply with federal sex offender registration requirements as part of his sentence.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota and investigated by federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.
