Ramsey County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A 2021 Honda CR-V stolen from a Saint Paul pickleball court on April 9 led to a high-speed pursuit across Ramsey County, culminating in a crash on County Road I.
The vehicle’s owner reported the theft around 11:19 a.m., stating that her jacket, containing the car keys, was stolen while she played pickleball at 890 Cromwell Ave. The Honda was entered into state and national crime databases as stolen.
Around 9 p.m., a Ramsey County deputy spotted the stolen SUV near Lexington Avenue and County Road F in Shoreview. The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Marshall David Planting of Pine River, and the passenger, 33-year-old Lachelle Monique Nordstrom, were inside. Planting led deputies on a chase, reaching speeds of 80 mph, and attempted to evade capture by altering the vehicle’s license plate with white paint.
The pursuit ended when deputies executed a PIT maneuver at County Road I and Dunlap Street, causing the vehicle to roll onto its side. Inside, deputies found evidence of the license plate alteration.
Nordstrom told investigators that during the chase, Planting handed her a duffel bag containing a short-barreled AR-style firearm with a scratched-off serial number, instructing her to discard it. Deputies later recovered the bag, which also contained masks and gloves.
Planting, who has a prior felony conviction, is prohibited from possessing firearms. He now faces multiple charges, including felony vehicle theft, fleeing police, illegal possession of a firearm, and altering license plates.
