Polk County: Shocking High-Speed Chase Ends in Officer-Involved Shooting

Polk County (trfnews.i234.me)—A dramatic high-speed pursuit that began at the Pembina Port of Entry in North Dakota escalated into an officer-involved shooting in Polk County, Minnesota, on Monday morning. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Caleb Coffey from Oklahoma, was confronted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection before fleeing into Minnesota.

The chase proceeded through Marshall County, with Coffey driving a 2011 black Cadillac at speeds ranging from 80 to 125 miles per hour. Authorities received information about the pursuit at approximately 9:32 a.m. The suspect continued south on Highway 75, passing through downtown Crookston, and eventually stopped on County Road 9, west of the intersection with 350th Avenue Southwest.

Upon stopping, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Coffey sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks for treatment. Following his release from the hospital, he was taken to the Northwest Regional Correctional Center, where he awaits formal charges.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Agencies involved in the incident include the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Crookston Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, Minnesota State Patrol, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and Crookston Area Ambulance.
