The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning after receiving multiple complaints about a phone scam where the caller falsely claims to be a sheriff’s deputy. The scammers are impersonating members of the sheriff’s office, asking residents for personal information and payments under the pretense of resolving warrants.
Officials stress that the Polk County Sheriff’s Office does not ask for personal information or payment over the phone. These fraudulent calls are originating from area codes 218, 818, and 318.
Residents are advised to hang up immediately if they suspect a scam and report the incident to local law enforcement.
