Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) — A 41-year-old Gonvick man faces five charges after an early morning domestic violence incident in rural Polk County.
Charges Filed in Polk County Court
Prosecutors have charged Skyler Allen Robinson in Polk County District Court.
The charges include second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault by strangulation.
He also faces misdemeanor domestic assault, threats of violence, and possession of ammunition while using a controlled substance.
The case is filed in the Minnesota District Court, according to the complaint.
Deputies Respond to Rural Gonvick Home
According to the criminal complaint, a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy went to a rural Gonvick home around 5:30 a.m. on December 5.
Dispatch reported a domestic assault in progress.
The victim had escaped the home and called for help.
Deputies later found Robinson walking north along County Road 2 and detained him.
Victim Describes Violent Attack
At the residence, paramedics treated the victim for visible injuries.
She had blood on her head, face, hands, and clothes, according to the complaint.
The victim told deputies Robinson threw a table saw at her head.
She said he then hit her and her service dog with an axe handle.
She reported that Robinson strangled her several times and threatened to kill her and her dog.
The victim also said he forced her outside without shoes or a coat for about an hour.

Blood, Weapons, and Ammo Found in Home
Deputies reported seeing blood on the ground leading up to the home.
They also saw blood on the deck and on the inside walls.
A table saw and an axe handle were found on the living room floor.
During a search, deputies found a .22 caliber bolt action rifle and two smaller caliber firearms.
They also found ammunition, including 12-gauge shotgun shells, .223 rifle rounds, and .357 bullets.
Alleged Drug Use and Prior Conviction
Robinson gave a voluntary urine sample, according to the complaint.
He admitted it would test positive for methamphetamine.
When questioned at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center, Robinson denied assaulting the victim.
He claimed she injured herself.
Court records say Robinson is on supervised probation in Crow Wing County for a 2023 second-degree assault conviction.
Prosecutors filed notice that they will seek an enhanced sentence.
The complaint says Robinson is “particularly unamenable to probation.”
