Plummer, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — Michael “Mike” Misson died Tuesday, January 20, 2026. He was 76. Family members said he died at home.
Misson was born August 13, 1949, in Crookston, Minnesota. He graduated from Mentor High School in 1968. He later built a long career in construction work.
Service schedule
- Thursday, Jan. 29: Visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. A prayer service starts at 6 p.m.
- Friday, Jan. 30: Visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor. The funeral service starts at 11 a.m.
- Military honors will follow the service. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery near Mentor.

Life and service
Misson served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1970. He reached the rank of sergeant. He served in Vietnam.
During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal. He also received the Vietnam Service Medal. He was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. His reserve obligation ended in 1975.
After school, Misson worked at Nordheim Roofing in Bemidji from 1971 to 1993. He later became a general contractor. He retired in 2006.
In retirement, he enjoyed gardening. Family members also remembered summer camping trips. They also recalled July reunions and cookouts.
Family
Misson married Joy Ann Sanders, on July 29, 1972. They had three children. They are Aaron Misson, Heather Hanson, and Owen Misson.
He is survived by Aaron (Nancy) Misson of Thief River Falls. He is also survived by Heather (Nick) Hanson of Thief River Falls. He is also survived by Owen (Carmen) Misson of Thief River Falls.
He is also survived by siblings Kitty (Luverne) Lomen, Pat Olson, Betty (Kenny) Lomen, Tim Tice, Pennie (Chad) Korynta, and Mae Tice. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family members said he was known as “Grandpa Mike.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Owen Misson. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Donna Eldora (Virgil) Tice. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Kelly Tice. He was also preceded in death by his sister Peggy Peterson.
