Pine River, Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Backus man is charged in a trailer theft case, court papers say.
Charge filed
Guy Steven Boyles, 44, of Backus, Minnesota, is facing one felony theft count. The charge involves a 6-by-12 Hallmark enclosed trailer.
What was reported
Court documents say a male victim told law enforcement his trailer was missing. The report was made on January 17. The trailer had been parked in a rural area near Pine River.
The victim later posted about the theft on Facebook, the documents say. A man who had bought a similar trailer saw the post. He then contacted law enforcement.

What investigators allege
The buyer told investigators he met Boyles at a casino, according to the complaint. The buyer said Boyles asked if he wanted to buy a trailer. The buyer said Boyles told him he needed money.
The buyer said he inspected the trailer before paying. He told investigators the price seemed like a great deal. The buyer said he paid $600 and took the trailer.
After the Facebook post, the buyer said it matched the stolen trailer. The buyer then reported what he knew, the documents say.
Boyles’ statement
Court papers say Boyles denied selling the trailer while being taken to jail. He told officers he did not sell it. He claimed the buyer gave him money at random.
