Phyllis Mae “Toots” Wedin, age 88, passed away June 3, 2024 at Altru Hospital. Phyllis was born February 26, 1936 to Franz and Irene Iverson, in Grand Forks, ND. She was the second of 10 children. She married Robert E. “Bob” Wedin, and they had 5 children.
Phyllis “Grandma Toots” was a daycare provider for many, many years with lots of kids calling her grandma – and she loved it! They were part of her family. She also worked for the University of North Dakota Athletic Dept. in concessions. She started working hockey concessions in the “Old Barn” and ended with over 63 years of service to UND Athletics. She worked hockey, basketball, volleyball, football, Shrine Circus, hockey camps, etc. Working at UND Athletics was her life!
Phyllis was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and was known as “The Donut Lady”. Hundreds and hundreds of donuts were fried and served for Coffee Hours. Her donuts were used to fund many causes at the church. Phyllis also had a “green thumb” and was so proud of her flower gardens. She could never have enough flowers.
Phyllis “Toots” is survived by her children, Diane {Steve) Swanson, Robert J. Wedin, Suzanne Wedin, all of Grand Forks, and Billy (Debbie) Wedin, of Oklahoma City, OK. Grandchildren: Katie and Matthew Swanson; Tyler and Sam (Katherine) Wedin; Heidi (Jim) Christianson, Brent (Meghan) Wedin, Michael (April) Wedin, and Casey (Ashley) Wedin; DJ (Alisha) Greenberg, Christopher (Erin) Greenberg, Bobby Greenberg; and Jonathan Wedin; and 22 great grandchildren. Brothers, Jack (Carol) Iverson, Rodney (Anita) Iverson, Bruce (Cyndi) Iverson; sister, Peggy (Bob) Gunderson; sisters-in-law, Judy Barta, Joanne (Bob) Eason, and Avis Iverson.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Wedin, son, Mark Wedin; parents; brothers Donald (Janice), Robert, Bill (Kathy), Jim, and Gary Iverson. Great grandchildren Tyler and Gunner Christianson, and Chloe Wedin.
Funeral service will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church, 520 University Avenue, Grand Forks, ND on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Amundson Funeral Home on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service. Online guestbook is available at
