Pennington County (trfnews.i234.me) On April 8, 2025, Thief River Falls resident Kyle Brent Olson, 32, was arrested near the intersection of Fourth Street and Main Avenue after police observed him driving with a revoked license. Olson faces multiple charges, including felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime, third-degree DWI—refusal, and driving after revocation.

According to the complaint, Olson had two prior citations for driving after revocation within the past six months. Upon arrest, officers allegedly found a rolled-up piece of tinfoil and a lighter on Olson. He admitted he planned to use drugs that evening. The tinfoil contained a crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, weighing 0.4 grams.

Olson reportedly failed field sobriety tests. Although he initially agreed to a blood test, he refused after medical personnel arrived. He also declined a subsequent urine test, despite being informed that refusal constitutes a crime.

  • In Minnesota, refusing a chemical test when suspected of DWI can lead to additional criminal charges.

  • Fifth-degree controlled substance crimes involve possession of small amounts of certain drugs and can result in felony charges.
