Pennington County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man with a disturbing criminal history is now charged in Pennington County after allegedly scamming a resident out of $550 through a fake apartment rental on Facebook Marketplace.

According to a criminal complaint, Tony Lewis Schlosser, 38, used the alias “Ember Moon” on Facebook to deceive a Pennington County resident, identified as N.M., into sending $500 in rent and a $50 holding fee for an apartment at 118 ½ North 3rd Street in Grand Forks. The payments were made via Venmo to the username “@kam-baby1704.”

N.M. reported the scam after being blocked on Facebook by the suspect. A digital paper trail tied the scam back to Schlosser through IP addresses, subscriber information, and banking details. Subpoenaed data from Google, Bluepeak, and Verizon linked the scam to Schlosser’s residence in Grand Forks, and a Venmo account connected to Miranda Lee Schlosser—possibly his accomplice.

Tony Schlosser now faces a gross misdemeanor charge of aiding and abetting theft by false representation, punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.

Schlosser’s extensive rap sheet includes multiple convictions for failing to register as a sex offender, child neglect, and prior thefts in various North Dakota counties dating back to 2006.
