Pennington County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Thief River Falls woman is facing a third-degree DWI charge after police stopped her vehicle late on November 22.
According to the Thief River Falls Police Department, an officer conducted a traffic stop at about 10:37 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 32 and Sanford Parkway. The driver, identified as Lori Ann Severson, 65, was taken into custody after the officer reported several signs of impairment.

The complaint states that the officer noticed indicators of impairment while speaking with Severson. Police said Severson did not perform well on field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the tests, she allegedly told the officer to “give her a ticket.”
A preliminary breath test was administered at the scene. The device recorded a 0.16 Blood Alcohol Content reading, which meets the threshold for an enhanced DWI charge under Minnesota law. Details about DWI penalties are available through the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
Severson was transported to the Pennington County Jail. While at the jail, she provided two breath samples using a DataMaster DMT testing machine. Both tests reportedly resulted in 0.16 BAC.
Severson has been charged with third-degree DWI – 0.16 or greater. Her case will move forward in Pennington County District Court. Court calendars and case records can be viewed through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
Additional information may be released as the case proceeds.
