Pennington Co. Man Sentenced on Drug, DWI Charges
THIEF RIVER FALLS, PENNINGTON COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A Thief River Falls man has been sentenced on felony drug and gross misdemeanor DWI charges stemming from a June traffic stop.
According to Pennington County District Court records, Lane Allen Anderson, 29, was sentenced for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime – previous conviction, and gross misdemeanor third-degree driving while impaired with an aggravating factor. A misdemeanor charge of driving after suspension was dismissed.
For the felony drug conviction, Anderson received a sentence of 17 months in prison, stayed for five years. As a condition of probation, he was ordered to serve 79 days in jail, with credit for time served. He will also serve five years of supervised probation, complete a comprehensive assessment, and follow recommended treatment and aftercare. Anderson is prohibited from possessing firearms, ammunition, or explosives, and must submit a DNA sample. He was ordered to pay $210 in court fees and fines.
On the DWI charge, Anderson was sentenced to 364 days in jail, with 285 days stayed for four years, meaning his 79 days already served completed the sentence. He was placed on four years of supervised probation under the same conditions as the felony sentence.
The charges followed a June 19 traffic stop in the 700 block of Eighth Street East in Thief River Falls. According to the complaint, Anderson showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. Officers observed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. A preliminary breath test showed a 0.151 BAC, and a later test showed 0.14 BAC. Anderson also admitted to using methamphetamine about a week earlier.
A vehicle search uncovered a torn baggie that tested presumptive positive for meth, a hypodermic needle in a cupholder, and an open beer can in the trunk. Anderson also tested positive for alcohol, amphetamine, meth, and THC. Court documents noted he had prior convictions for meth possession in North Dakota and impaired driving within the past 10 years.
