Patriots draft bust released by Vikings

N’Keal Harry is a free agent once again after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.

The 2019 New England Patriots first-round pick didn’t play in a game for the Vikings this season. Harry signed with the Vikings in August 2023 and appeared in nine games due to injuries to Justin Jefferson.

The Vikings also announced they signed former Patriots linebacker Calvin Munson to their practice squad.

Harry changed positions from wide receiver to tight end — something Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said he was “fired up about.” But he never got the chance to showcase whether the change of positions would help him get on a good track.

Harry’s time with the Patriots didn’t quite work out as planned. He struggled to stay healthy and didn’t reach the end of his rookie contract as the Patriots declined his fifth-year option. The Chicago Bears acquired Harry in 2022 for a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He appeared in seven games after a stint on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

He also had a difficult start to 2023. After signing with the Vikings that August, they elected to release him just 18 days later. Harry re-signed with the team’s practice squad in September and was elevated the following month.

It’s unclear what, if any interest Harry will draw as he looks to continue his career elsewhere.
