Ottertail Man Busted with Meth, Fails Sobriety Test While Parked Without Plates – trfnews.i234.me

Otter Tail County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — On February 27, 2025, deputies in Otter Tail County responded to assist Wadena police after a man was found asleep in a truck with barking dogs, parked in front of an abandoned residence with no license plates. The man was identified as Mitchell Lee Peterson, 34, of Ottertail.

Peterson claimed he had been driving around emotionally due to a sick relative, but field sobriety tests told another story. Officers noticed dilated pupils, excessive sweating, and suspicious behavior. A search of his vehicle revealed methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

He later admitted to recent meth use, and a urine test confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine. Peterson is charged with:

  • Felony 5th-Degree Meth Possession

  • Gross Misdemeanor DWI – Schedule I/II Drugs (3rd Degree), based on a prior DWI conviction from 2016.

If convicted, Peterson could face over five years in prison and thousands in fines.
