OTTER TAIL COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) – A Perham man is facing serious drug trafficking charges after a scooter chase and arrest in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
According to the statement of probable cause, police spotted Matthew Steven Torgerson on July 26 at 6:38 p.m. near Cleveland Elementary School in Fergus Falls during routine patrol. The officer recognized Torgerson, who had an outstanding warrant.
Authorities say Torgerson attempted to flee on a scooter but crashed into a row of bushes. He was found lying in the bushes and arrested without further incident. Officers discovered $2,348 in cash on him, and a later search of his backpack at the police department revealed 323 grams of methamphetamine packaged for distribution.
Torgerson is charged with first-degree drug possession, involving 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, a felony carrying a potential 40-year prison sentence. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle.
