Otter Tail County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — In a chilling case that has shocked the community, 30-year-old Suad Mohamed Ali of Pelican Rapids has pleaded guilty to unintentional second-degree murder in the death of her 3-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on July 10, 2023, when police responded to a report of an unresponsive child at Ali’s residence.
Upon arrival, officers found the young girl lying on the floor without a pulse. She was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes, where she was pronounced dead. Court documents reveal that Ali admitted to suffocating her daughter to stop her from crying for food. Disturbingly, she smiled while emergency responders performed CPR on the child.
Further investigations uncovered that Ali had attempted to stab her daughter earlier that night but did not follow through. A knife was found on the arm of a couch in the living room. Ali also confessed to punching her daughter in the throat and lying on top of her while she was face down on the floor in an attempt to silence her.
Initially charged with second and third-degree murder, Ali was found incompetent to stand trial in October 2023. However, she was deemed competent last month and subsequently accepted a plea deal. Her sentencing is scheduled for June 16.
