OTTER TAIL COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) – A Fergus Falls woman is facing multiple felony charges after an alleged attack on an elderly family member. Court records name the suspect as Michelle L. Stattleman.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim reported that Stattleman punched her repeatedly in the head and kicked her. She also claimed Stattleman pulled her arm behind her back and placed her in a chokehold.

Authorities say a witness later told them that Stattleman insisted the victim had only fallen. However, investigators determined that the evidence supported the victim’s account. Medical evaluation confirmed injuries consistent with the victim’s statements.

Stattleman is now charged with three felonies: second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and domestic assault by strangulation. Each of these offenses carries the potential for significant prison sentences under Minnesota law.

The case will proceed in Otter Tail County District Court. A first appearance date is expected to be set soon. If convicted, Stattleman could face years in prison, fines, and long-term supervision.

Officials continue to highlight the importance of reporting domestic violence, especially when vulnerable adults are involved. Support and resources for victims are available through the National Domestic Violence Hotline and local agencies in Minnesota.

TRF News will provide updates on this case as court proceedings move forward.
