EYOTA TOWNSHIP, Olmsted County (trfnews.i234.me) — A fatal collision on the eastbound I-90 exit ramp to Highway 42/County Road 7 left one passenger dead Friday afternoon. The crash was reported at 1:45 p.m. on November 21. The Minnesota State Patrol released updated details later the same day.
According to the State Patrol, a 2023 Freightliner semi truck and trailer were traveling northbound on County Road 7. At the same time, a 2008 Chevrolet Impala was traveling eastbound on the I-90 ramp, crossing County Road 7. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Road conditions were dry. Both vehicles came to rest near the crash site.

The semi was driven by Daniel John Kalwasinski, 37, of Rochester. He was not injured. The report states he was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not involved.
The Chevrolet Impala was driven by Johnathan Curtis Gerow, 41, of Hayward, Wisconsin. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. He was wearing a seat belt.
A passenger in the Impala, Taylor Alix Hermeier, 34, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, died from her injuries. According to the State Patrol, she was wearing a seat belt. No alcohol involvement was reported.
Responders from the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, Eyota Fire, Eyota Ambulance, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance assisted at the scene. MnDOT also responded due to the location near the interstate ramp.
Intersection crashes near high-speed ramps can be severe because of limited sight lines and closing speeds. Safety officials remind drivers to slow down, check for cross-traffic, and remain alert at ramp intersections.
