Rochester (trfnews.i234.me) – A 20-year-old Olmsted County man is accused of brutally beating his disabled father and stealing his wallet during a violent incident late last month.According to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday, Tongol Pal Ruach faces charges of first-degree assault, first-degree aggravated robbery, and third-degree assault for the August 28 attack at Central Towers in Rochester.

Police were called just before noon and found the victim, identified as Ruach’s father, lying on the floor of his second-floor apartment. Officers reported the victim’s mouth was bloodied, his eyes swollen shut, and several teeth missing. The apartment showed clear signs of a violent struggle, with blood on the floor and walls, broken furniture, and scattered belongings.

The victim, who has one leg and requires assistance to move, told police Ruach demanded money that morning. When told none was available, Ruach allegedly punched him repeatedly in the face and torso until he lost consciousness. When he awoke, his phone and wallet were missing. A witness confirmed Ruach had been seen earlier in the building, visibly upset and asking about his father’s location.

Doctors later informed investigators that the victim lost vision in his left eye as a result of the assault, and his medical team is working to preserve sight in his right eye. The victim also reported a history of threats and violence from Ruach, including prior hospitalizations, and said he forced his son out of the apartment months earlier due to his behavior.

Ruach was arrested and gave a Mirandized statement, admitting the argument turned physical but claiming he had been financially supporting his father. He denied being injured during the altercation.

Bail was set at $50,000 with conditions that Ruach remain law-abiding, not leave Minnesota without approval, and not possess firearms or dangerous weapons. Prosecutors have filed notice that they will seek an aggravated sentence due to the victim’s vulnerability. Ruach’s next court date is September 16. He remains jailed as of publication.
