Bagley, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — The victim of a deadly officer-involved shooting in Bagley, Minnesota, on Thursday has been identified as Dennis Hoie. A Facebook post by Hoie’s cousin confirmed his identity, describing him as a “soft-spoken, kind, gentle man” and a proud Vietnam War veteran who had been a member of Post 16 for 50 years.

In the post, Hoie’s cousin shared, “Dennis suffered from PTSD and mental health issues, which tragically took his life.” The cousin also mentioned that Dennis was survived by a sister and three brothers, who loved him deeply. According to the relative, Dennis had recently missed a court hearing, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest, which initiated the incident that ended in his death.

The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office reported that Dennis allegedly fired a flare-type projectile at a deputy, prompting the deputy to return fire, fatally wounding Hoie. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the incident, and more information will be released once the investigation progresses.

The family of Dennis Hoie has expressed support for the Clearwater County deputy involved in the incident, and they continue to grieve his loss.

The incident remains under investigation by the BCA, which is expected to provide further updates as more details emerge.
