Obituary | Troy Laugen | Johnson Funeral Service

 

Troy Scott Laugen, 55, of Windsor, Colorado passed unexpectedly on Sunday evening, October 26, 2025, at Medical Center of the Rockies, Loveland, Colorado with his beloved brother Tony by his side, holding his hand.

Troy was born October 6, 1970, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.  He was baptized at the United Free Church in Greenbush, Minnesota.  When he was young, he loved playing outside and camping at Red Feather Lakes, Colorado.

Troy attended schools in Thief River Falls, Aitkin and high school in Scottsdale, AZ. He earned his GED Certificate in 1991.

Troy faced significant struggles and challenges in his life, but he faced them with perseverance and courage.  In his later teens, he was diagnosed with a mental illness disorder and when he was 25 years old, he had a brain aneurysm and spent six months in hospital rehab.  He was partially paralyzed on the left side of his body.  With wearing a brace on his leg/foot enabled him to walk, though with difficulty, and he did not have the use of his left arm/hand. Even with his disabilities, Troy lived independently.  He lived in Windsor, Colorado for 25 years within a supportive community that all took care of each other.

Troy developed a passion for athletics early on and excelled in sports.  This love continued after his disability as he continued to enjoy watching and discussing sports with his family.

Troy loved animals, especially cats and dogs. Spending time at Windsor Shores Lake with family and cruising the lake on the pontoon and spending holidays with his family.

Troy is survived by his father, Paul (Carol) Laugen of Thief River Falls, MN; brother, Tony Laugen of Denver, CO; mother, Karen Hartley of Loveland, CO; half-brothers, Randy (Priscilla) Ruxton of Juanita, NE and Joe (Suzy) Ruxton of Orange City, FL; niece, Sydney Laugen of Aurora, CO; nephew Brady Laugen of Arvada, CO; uncles Scott (Bonnie) Laugen of Blaine, MN and Alton Aamodt of Greenbush, MN; as well as numerous cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Kurt Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Greenbush, MN.
