Stanley Olaf Olson, 85, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, in Thief River Falls, MN.  He was born on September 20, 1935, to Joel and Matilda (Tiesch) Olson, in Minneapolis, MN.

Stanley attended Roosevelt High School, Minneapolis, MN.  From there he worked on his brother-in-law’s farm (Ben Nett) in Foxholm, ND, until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953.  He completed boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois.  His duty assignment was on the USS Columbus (CA-74). He received the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Medal, and served mostly overseas during the time of the Korean War until his discharge in 1955.

Stanley’s occupations consisted of farm work, steel industries, Taxi Cab driver, cooking, and his longest most endearing occupation was a courier, making deliveries throughout all the metro area.

In the last few years, Stanley’s dementia progressed, but he was able to tell stories of his younger years.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren, as long as they didn’t ask him to play board games.

Stanley is survived by his children: Kim Olson, CA; Joel, Glencoe, MN; Cynthia (Roy) Sourdif, Thief River Falls, MN; 9 grandchildren: Aida, Suri, Julie, Keith, Anthony, Jonathan, and other grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law; Gerald McCullen, Richfield, MN; Stepdaughter; Lisa (Ed) Granda, Barnum, MN; 3 stepchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, special friend Traci Scott & family of Minneapolis.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 16 years, Jerine, parents, Joel and Matilda Olson, Siblings: Marion Nett, Phyllis McCullen, and nephew, Bruce Nett.

Burial will be at a later date at Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
