Sharon Rae Hanson, 57, of Summerville, SC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 13, 2025, at her residence.  

Sharon was born on June 23, 1967, in Walhalla, ND, to Marvin and Gloria (Bourbanis) Rostvet. She was raised on a farm in East Valley Township near Middle River, MN, and was confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Middle River. She graduated from Marshall County Central in Newfolden in 1985 and later attended Northland Community and Technical College for broadcasting. She moved to Grand Forks, where she worked for a radio station while attending the University of North Dakota.  

On May 11, 1996, Sharon married Kirk Hanson, and together they had two sons, Gage and Parker. Over the years, she held various jobs, including working as a DJ on the radio and dealing blackjack while attending UND. At the time of her marriage, she was employed as a computer sales consultant at Fireside Office Products in Bismarck, ND. She later worked at a phone company in Bemidji and at Scheels in Fargo.  

Sharon was known for her outgoing nature and deep love for her family, friends, and dogs, especially bulldogs. She was a devoted hockey mom who spent many weekends supporting her sons. She enjoyed listening to audiobooks, kayaking near her home, and golfing with family and friends. Traveling brought her great joy, particularly trips to Mexico with friends. A highlight of her life was fulfilling a bucket list dream by attending the Westminster Dog Show in New York City with her husband Kirk.  

She is survived by her sons, Gage (Kaitlyn Wilson) Hanson of Horace, ND and Parker (Faith) Hanson of Grand Forks, ND; ex-husband, Kirk Hanson of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, River Hanson, Sunny Hanson, and Skye Hanson; sister, Wannetta (Lee) Wilhelm of Fisher, MN; nieces, Jessica (Dustin) Anderson of Ada, MN, Nicole (Eric) Klein of Grand Forks, ND, and Ashley Wahlberg of St. Petersburg, FL; nephew, Mason Wahlberg of Missoula, MT; mother and father-in-law, Sharon and Dennis Hanson of Turtle Lake, ND;  sister-in-law, Nikki (Scott) Wahlberg of Colorado Springs, CO; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Gloria Rostvet.  

A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Obit in Thief River Falls, MN with a prayer service starting at 7:00 PM. A visitation will also begin at noon until 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Obit in Thief River Falls, MN, followed by a service at 2:00 PM officiated by Father Craig Vasek. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.
