Sally Nelson, age 72, of Twin Valley, MN, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Benedictine Care Community in Ada, MN.
Sally Fay, the daughter of Warren and Florence (Lovas) Rick, was born in Valley City, ND on February 16, 1950. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. As a child, she moved with her family to Fargo, ND and attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School. After her graduation in 1968, Sally attended Concordia College, in Moorhead, MN, earning a degree in Elementary Education in 1971. Sally began her teaching career at Moorhead Public Schools. On December 22, 1972, Sally was united in marriage to Tom Nelson at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to the Twin Cities area where she taught at Richfield Public School while Tom attended Chiropractic College. Sally furthered her education at St. Thomas University, St. Paul, and obtained her Master’s degree in Special Education.
Tom and Sally purchased the Chiropractic Clinic in Twin Valley in June of 1977. She then worked as a chiropractic assistant until beginning her family in 1979. Sally raised seven beautiful children who where the center of her life. She attended all of her children’s many activities and cherished the quality time they spent as a family at their cabin on Tulaby Lake. As her children grew up, Sally returned to work at the Chiropractic Clinic until her retirement in 2015. Above all, she loved being a grandma and her grandchildren were the light of her world.
Sally was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley for 45 years. She shared her many talents and generosity with the church as a Sunday School teacher, the building committee, cleaning, and serving on the ladies’ aide, as well as various other projects. Her strong faith was evident and was a trait she demonstrated to her family daily. Throughout the years, Sally was also active with the Women of Today, Study Club, and numerous school groups. She enjoyed visiting with friends, sipping coffee in the sunshine, and taking many memorable vacations. Sally was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and a loyal friend. May her legacy of love and kindness live on through her children and all who she touched with her life.
Sally is survived by her husband, G. Thomas of Twin Valley; seven children and fifteen grandchildren: Sarah (Nick) and Carter, Keaton, and Kade Olson of Moorhead, Gretta (Jason) and Gavin and Melea Link, of Moorhead, Seth (Emily) and Sylvia, Lorelei, and Vivian Nelson of Maple Grove, MN, Soren (Mariana) Nelson of Durham, NC, Ty (Kelsey) and Thor and Axel Nelson of Twin Valley, Britta (Andrew) and Emmett, Beckett, and Jett Sather of Moorhead, and Kaia (Chris) and Zane and Zeke Christianson of Alexandria, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Florence Rick; and her brother, Steve Rick.
Memorial gifts to Norman County Dollars for Scholars is preferred. In lieu of sending thankyous a memorial gift will be donated to Norman County East Dollars For Scholars in Sally’s memory.
A Memorial Service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 2:00 pm, with a time of gathering beginning one hour before at the church.
