Melvin P. Halverson, 72, Manvel, North Dakota, died Saturday, January 14, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family.
Melvin Paul Halverson, the son of Melvin Joseph and Gladys Minerva (Hjelmstad) Halverson, was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on January 19, 1950. He attended West Elementary School, and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1968 and from Wahpeton School of Science in 1970.
Mel married Doree Fulton 1973. Together they had four daughters, Mandy, Emily, Chris, and Suzie.
Mel was a longtime farmer and was also employed in civil service at the GFAFB from 1974-2012. He served in the US Army Reserve from 1970-1976.
He served as a commissioner for the Manvel Park Board, Fire Chief of the Manvel Fire Dept., and a member of the Manvel American Legion Post #299. He enjoyed Sioux hockey, going to the lake, coffee with his friends, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He felt good about retaining a little bit of hair after raising four daughters. Mel had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great friend to all “knuckleheads.”
Mel is survived by his four daughters, Miranda (Kameron) Slominski, Manvel, ND; Emily (Trevor) Wigen, Finley, ND; Christina (Stephen) Baughn, Avondale, AZ; and Suzanne (Bradley) Hegvick, Reynolds, ND; He is survived also by his grandchildren, Kaleb, Kenady, Gaven, Hailey, Avery, Jared, Corban, and Clara. He was a good father and grandfather, and he will be missed greatly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Halverson, his father, Melvin J. Halverson, a brother, Allen Halverson, and a sister, Ila Stewart.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Manvel, North Dakota. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service and Time of Memory Sharing at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Interment will be in the spring at Middle Grove Cemetery, rural Manvel, ND.
