Maria Guadalupe Moreno de Gomez, 77 of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Laredo, TX, passed into our Heavenly Father’s arms on Saturday April 8, 2023, at her home in Grand Forks.
Maria, also known as “Lupe,” was born on October 12, 1945, in Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas, México. Daughter of José Florencio Moreno and Antonia Ramírez. Lupe did not finish middle school as she had a rough childhood life in Mexico. Their mother abandoned her and her siblings at a young age, and her father passed away while they were in their teenage years. She was one of the oldest siblings who provided for her younger siblings at the time being.
Lupe worked as a house cleaner in Laredo, TX, where she met her husband Juan De Dios Gomez Sr. They married on May 18, 1970, and raised 3 children: Juan De Dios Jr, Sonia Anavel, and Gerardo Alejandro. Their very youngest, Ruby Elizabeth, passed away from SIDS months after being born. Juan and Lupe both worked as migrant labor workers between North Dakota and Texas on and off for years. Juan and Lupe also raised a granddaughter, Sonia Carolina, since birth when Sonia Anavel (21) passed away on August 10, 1994. The family established residency in East Grand Forks, Minnesota in 2003.
Lupe is survived by her two sons, Juan (Samantha) Gomez Jr of Grafton, ND, and Gerardo (Cristina) Gomez of Grand Forks, ND; the granddaughter they raised, Sonia Carolina Esquivel; 2 great-grandchildren, Jesus Yair and Janaia Elaine; 12 other grandchildren, Jose Alejandro, Jose Alberto, Juan De Dios III, Jennifer, Adan, Abigail Bonita, Joseph, Cole Matthew, Selena Marie, Ruby Elizabeth Anne, Eli Eleazar, and Ezequiel Alejandro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan De Dios Gomez Sr; and daughters, Ruby Elizabeth Gomez and Sonia Anavel Gomez.
Visitation is 12:00p.m. to 12:30p.m. with Funeral Services from 12:30p.m. to 2:00p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Gospel Outreach Ministries, 2587 South 42nd Street, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery in East Grand Forks, Minnesota immediately following the funeral.
