Obituary | Lonnie Thompson of Thief River Falls, Minnesota

Lonnie Thompson, 59, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 at his residence in Thief River Falls, MN.

Memorial service for Lonnie will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Stephanie White officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lonnie Ray Thompson was born February 7, 1965 in Greenbush, MN son of David and Jeraldine (Lavoy) Thompson. He attended school at Lincoln High School graduating with the class of 1983.

Lonnie entered the US Airforce in 1985 and served as an airframe repair specialist until his honorable discharge in 1989.

In September of 1990 he was united in marriage to Denise Bjerken, to this union Cambell was born.

On April 23, 2010 he was united in marriage to September Hemmestvedt, September’s son Colton became part of his family.

While in high school he worked at Anderson Brothers. Following his discharge he worked at UPS. Lonnie began working at Arctic Cat/Textron where he has since been employed. He was also a timer for the USXC Snowcat Races.

Lonnie enjoyed golfing, restoring classic cars, Marvel Comics, and grilling and cooking. He enjoyed his four-legged friends Diesel, Remmington and Murphy.  Most of all he loved being a grandpa and watching his grandsons play sports. Lonnie was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he previously served on the church board, he also served on the Thief River Falls Golf Club board.

Lonnie is survived by his wife September Thompson of Thief River Falls, MN; son Cambell (Sara) Thompson of Tucson, AZ and step-son Colton (Kaeley Merrill) Hemmestvedt of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren Kasen Muzzy and Kolter Hemmestvedt; parents David (Beverly) Thompson and Jeraldine Thompson; siblings Kevin (Sherrie) Thompson, Chad Thompson, Kristi (Tim) Numedahl and Bobbi (Dan) Adams along with several nieces and nephews.

Lonnie is preceded in death by Zackary Adams, Connie & Louis Lavoy and Cambell & Olga Thompson.
