Leona Hofius, 90, of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Sartell, MN with her loving family by her side.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 3, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner presiding with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Leona Mae Miller was born July 11, 1931 in Red Lake Falls, MN the daughter of Arnold and Alice (Roy) Miller. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. She attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and graduated from Lafayette High School with the class of 1949. From 1949-1950 she worked for Chicago Lake Bank in Minneapolis, MN.

On June 24, 1950, Leona was united in marriage to Dalton “Hofie” Hofius in Red Lake Falls, MN, and to this union six children were born:  Linda, Jim, Ron, Dave, Chuck and Patti. She often said she had children home from 1951 until 1991

Leona was Bookkeeper for the family business, Hofius Oil Company, from 1952 until 1979. Then she worked for the Red Lake County Clerk of Court and Assessors Office from 1985 until 1991.

She enjoyed sewing, reading, golfing, playing cards and writing. One of Leona’s accomplishments was to write her own book of memories entitled “My Journey”.

Leona was a life-long member and eucharistic minister of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. She was a volunteer with Meals On Wheels and a member of Oak Knoll’s Golf Course.

Survivors include her children, Linda Johansen of Fargo, ND, Jim (JoAnn) Hofius of Steamboat Springs, CO, Ron (Theresa) Hofius of Albuquerque, NM, Dave (Jennefer) Hofius of Cabot, AR, Chuck (Terry) Hofius of Perham, MN and Patti (Dean) Grandstrand of Sartell, MN; grandchildren, Tricia (Dave), Shawn (Jason), Alexis (Aaron), Travis (Jennifer), Misty (Matt) Curt, Sam (Jenna), Kai (Rin), DJ, Scarlet, Garrett, Ashley, Tanner (Robert), Connor (Summer), Chelsie, Kegan, Penny; great-grandchildren, Alex, Tevon, Emery, Rocco, Isla, Nick, Carson, Charlee, Liam, Ashley Jo, Perrin; sister, Helen Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, MN; brother, Bernard (Iris) Miller of Georgetown, TX; sister-in-law, Carol Miller; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dalton in 2017; grandson, Dustin; great-granddaughter, Harper; siblings, Vernon Miller, Ray (Elaine) Miller and Shirley (Ray) Andrews; and brother-in-law, Vincent Schmitz.
