Elaine Luoto of Greenbush, formerly of Roseau, MN passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Greenbush Manor in Greenbush, MN.
Funeral Service for Elaine will be held on Friday, 3:00 PM, April 11, 2025 at Obit in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend David Niemela Officiating. Burial will be held at Moose River Cemetery near Gatzke, MN.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Elaine Luoto, born October 10, 1928, in Grand Forks, ND. She was the daughter of Ernest and Tina (Scramstad) Nelson. Baptized into the Lutheran faith on June 26, 1929, and confirmed on May 30, 1943, her faith remained an important part of her life.
Elaine was raised near Gatzke, MN, attending country school before graduating from eighth grade on June 19, 1942. She continued her education in Middle River, MN, graduating from high school on May 29, 1946. On August 26, 1948, she married Martin Luoto at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home in Fridley, MN, where Elaine was active in craft clubs, sewing circles, Bible studies, and various volunteer efforts throughout the community.
Following Martin’s passing on February 7, 1997, Elaine relocated to Roseau, MN, residing at North Star Apartments for many years. In September 2024, she moved to Greenbush Manor in Greenbush, MN.
Elaine is survived by her sisters-in-law Bonnie Nelson and Sylvia Clark, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin; parents Tina and Ernest; siblings Leonard Nelson, Duane Nelson, and Maxine Larson; brothers-in-law Marvin Larson, John Luoto, Richard Luoto, and Robert Clark; sisters-in-law Joanne Nelson, Karina Mickelson, Evelyn Luoto, Rosalie Chase, and Arlene Luoto; as well as her parents-in-law Olga and John Luoto and several nieces and nephews.
Elaine’s kindness and dedication to her community will be fondly remembered by those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
