DONALD’S OBITUARY

Donald Dennis Rivard Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather gained his angel wings on March 23, 2023. He passed away with his family at his side. Donald was 87 years old. Donald was born and raised in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. He was born on August 26, 1935.

He was an honorable man who spent his life serving his community. He was a man of the people. He always lent a helping hand with no expectations in return. Don spent two years in the army (1954-1956) when he was a young man. He served in Germany during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he moved to South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he married his wife, Rose Marie, in 1957.

Don worked in construction until he was hired on as a police officer in South Milwaukee. He spent 15 years on the South Milwaukee Police Department, from 1964-1979. He was well respected and loved by his coworkers and friends. He later moved to Yakima, Washington, where he worked for John I HAAS, until he retired in 2002.

He made many lifetime friends throughout his journey. They then spent their retired years in Elma, Washington, on Star Lake. Don was the golf club manager and loved taking care of the golf course and taking his grandkids golfing on the 9-hole course.

Donald was married to his lovely wife, Rose Marie, for 65 years, who precedes him in death. They had seven wonderful children, Kevin (Kitty) Rivard, Debra (Mike) Hafert, Ralph Rivard, whom also precede him in death, and Donald (Cynthia) Rivard Jr., Pamela (Bob) Betts, Patricia (Dave) Eggers, and Tracy (Pat) Buroker. He is also survived by his little sister, Denise Copple, and many nieces and nephews. Don was very blessed in life with 18 amazing grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of which he adored. His one thing that he did for every grandchild and great-grandchild was to be the first one to give them a lollipop and sing to them the famous Alphabet song by Bing Crosby. He made all his grandchildren feel special in his own way. Each grandchild and great-grandchild had a very unique relationship with him. He knew how to make all of them feel loved and supported.

If you would like to come help us honor an amazing man, who had 87 wonderful years on this earth, please join us at Holy Family Catholic Church (5315 Tieton Dr., Yakima, WA 98908) on April 3, 2023, at 10:00am, with Reception to follow.
