MANKATO, MN — (trfnews.i234.me) — A North Mankato man is facing serious charges after a June 12 shooting left another man paralyzed in what authorities allege was a marijuana deal set up to rob him.

Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud, 19, is charged in Blue Earth County with:

  • Attempted second-degree murder

  • First-degree assault causing great bodily harm

  • Second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon

The Shooting

Police say they were called around 11:26 p.m. to a Mankato apartment complex after multiple gunshots were reported. Officers found the glass entry shattered, bullet holes in the doorway, and a man lying in a hallway with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim told officers he couldn’t move his legs and had fired his own gun toward the entrance, trying to get help.

Doctors later confirmed he suffered a lacerated liver and extensive spinal damage—injuries that have left him paralyzed.

Drugs, Weapons & Evidence

Investigators recovered:

  • 236 grams of suspected marijuana

  • 49 THC vape cartridges

  • 252 grams of marijuana wax

  • Several shell casings and a pistol were near the victim

  • A 5.56 rifle casing at the far end of the hallway, suggesting a possible second shooter

The Alleged Setup

According to the complaint, Mohamud was one of four people who came to the building for a planned $2,000 marijuana transaction. Surveillance, phone, and social media data tied Mohamud to the vehicle used in the incident.

Witnesses recalled someone saying, “I’m not gonna rob you, there are three of you and one of us,” moments before shots rang out.

The victim later identified Mohamud—known as “Ablicc”—as the gunman, claiming Mohamud rounded a corner and opened fire with an assault-style pistol before he could draw his own weapon.

Mohamud allegedly fled to St. Cloud and later the Twin Cities after the shooting. He is currently in custody and faces up to 20 years in prison on each of the top two felony charges if convicted.
