Nobles County Deputy Critically Injured After Parked Squad Car Struck on I-90

Nobles County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me)On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at approximately 4:34 p.m., a serious collision occurred on westbound Interstate 90 near mile marker 34 in Dewald Township, Nobles County. A 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 63-year-old Theresa Ann Bear of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, struck a parked 2023 Dodge Durango squad car occupied by Deputy Arnold Logan Waldner, 30, of Worthington, Minnesota. Deputy Waldner was assisting the Minnesota State Patrol with traffic direction for a separate crash investigation at the time of the incident. The squad car’s emergency lights were activated when it was rear-ended. Deputy Waldner sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was not wearing a seat belt, and the airbag did not deploy. Ms. Bear sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sanford Luverne Hospital. She was wearing a seat belt, and the airbag deployed upon impact. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
