New York Mills (trfnews.i234.me) — A 3-year-old boy died after a dog attack near New York Mills, Minnesota. Authorities say the boy’s grandmother was also hurt.
What the sheriff’s office reported
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office said the call came in at about 1 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2026. Dispatch received a 911 call from a 51-year-old woman, officials said.
The woman reported she was driving herself and her grandson to the Perham Health emergency room. Officials said both had serious dog bite injuries.
Deputies met them at the emergency room, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators later learned the attack happened at a home west of New York Mills.
Authorities say the child climbed into an outdoor enclosed area. The dog was being kept in that area.
The dog attacked the child, the sheriff’s office said. The dog was described as an adult American bulldog.
Officials said the grandmother was injured while stopping the attack. The child later died from his injuries, authorities said.
Officials said the grandmother was later taken to a hospital in Fargo. Her condition was not released in the sheriff’s summary.
The sheriff’s office said the dog was destroyed. Officials also said there are no ongoing safety concerns.
