Brycen Sateren faces one count of child abuse, three counts of sexual assault, and two counts of domestic violence. The charges were filed after deputies responded to a call for help in Lakota on November 19.
Deputies were sent to a home at 2978 109th Avenue NE for a report of a verbal domestic dispute. A teenager at the scene told investigators that Sateren had been drinking that night and often became angry when intoxicated.
The teenager also told investigators that Sateren had touched her inappropriately two weeks before the incident. A woman who made the call to law enforcement reported that the adult victim told her Sateren once held a gun to her head and threatened to kill her.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Department requested help from Child Protective Services. The teenager took part in a forensic interview on November 21. According to investigators, the teen said Sateren had physically abused her “for as long as she could remember.”
Documents say the teenager reported being slapped, kicked, choked, and pinched. She showed bruises on her face, arms, legs, throat, and private areas. Investigators received photos on November 22 and 23 that showed bruising on her neck, calf, thigh, cheek, and a swollen black eye. Photos also showed blood on her cheek and a handprint mark on her face.
Investigators say photos of the adult victim also showed swelling and redness on her face. These photos have been added to the ongoing criminal case.
Sateren made his first court appearance on November 25. His next hearing is scheduled for January 9. More information on North Dakota criminal procedures can be found at the North Dakota Courts.
