Lakota, North Dakota ( trfnews.i234.me ) – Authorities say an 83-year-old man from Lakota was seriously injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 1.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports the crash happened at about 4:15 p.m. when the man was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee across Highway 2. His vehicle was struck by a semi traveling on the highway.
The semi driver, a 37-year-old man from Lackawanna, New York, was not injured. The Lakota driver, however, suffered serious injuries and was taken for medical treatment. His name has not yet been released pending further updates.
The intersection where the crash occurred is a busy crossing for local and commercial traffic. Investigators are reviewing the crash circumstances to determine contributing factors. Officials have not released additional details at this time.
Highway 2 is a major east-west route across North Dakota and has seen several serious accidents in recent years. The North Dakota Department of Transportation reminds drivers to use caution when entering or crossing major highways, especially during peak traffic hours.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
