FARGO, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – Residents near South University Drive have organized as the “South University Drive Coalition” to prevent STAND (Sex Offender Treatment and Assessment North Dakota) from establishing a treatment center at the former Cornerstone Bank located at 2627 University Drive South. STAND’s current location, near the jail, requires relocation, leading the organization to consider the bank property.
Jessica Azure, a coalition member, noted concerns about the area being surrounded by three elementary schools, multiple daycare centers, and the YWCA. The coalition has offered $50,000 above STAND’s purchase price to acquire the property and discourage the move.
STAND reports progress in negotiating to remain at its current site. However, should relocation become necessary, the group proposed limiting hours and accepting only low-risk offenders for treatment.
During a recent Fargo City Commission meeting, Azure stated the coalition would consider the matter resolved only when STAND finalizes the sale of the 2627 University Drive property. Following this, the coalition plans to collaborate with city leaders to address ordinances and licensing requirements to prevent similar issues in the future.
