NDSU Soccer Takes Over First Place With 1-0 Win Over SDSU

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State soccer picked up a 1-0 victory over South Dakota State Thursday night in Summit League play at Dacotah Field, to move to the top of the league standings.

Morgan Russmann scored her team-leading 7th goal of the season, and fourth in league play, in the 31st minute for the game’s only goal. It was her third game-winning goal in the last four games for the Bison (8-5-3, 4-1-1 Summit League).

The goal started with a cross from the left wing to the back post from Hannah Arnold. Devon Kavanagh then headed the ball back across goal to Russmann, who knocked it in from close range.

Payton Mulberry made two saves for her fifth cleansheet of the season and the seventh overall shutout for NDSU in 2024. Both South Dakota State (10-3-2, 3-1-1 Summit League) and the Bison finished with two shots on goal in the game.

With the victory over the Jackrabbits, the Bison move into sole possession of first place in the Summit League standings, with two games remaining in the regular season. The Bison also clinched a postseason berth with the win.

North Dakota State will return to action on Sunday, hosting South Dakota (3-6-5, 1-1-3 Summit League). The Bison and Coyotes are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Dacotah Field, with the game being televised on WDAY Xtra.
