NDSU Soccer Season Ends in Penalties vs. Oral Roberts

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State soccer season came to a close on Thursday, as the Bison fell to Oral Roberts on penalty kicks in the Summit League Championship semifinals at Dacotah Field. After a scoreless 0-0 game through 110 minutes, the Bison fell 5-3 in the penalty shootout.
 
Oral Roberts (9-7-5) scored on all five of its penalty kick chances, with Carson Arne scoring the clinching goal after Morgan Russmann’s penalty was saved in NDSU’s fourth attempt.
 
NDSU (10-5-4) dominated the first half, outnumbering Oral Roberts 8-1 in shots. The Bison missed a couple close chances, including two shots from Russmann that sailed just wide and just high. Ava Stanchina also had a narrow miss in the opening half.
 
The Bison led shots 5-4 in the second half and also led overtime 2-1, but were unable to find a breakthrough. Defensively, Payton Mulberry recorded her sixth shutout of the season and the eighth overall for NDSU, making two saves.
 
With the tie and defeat on penalties, NDSU’s season comes to a close with a 10-win season and the first regular season league title since 2016.
 
Oral Roberts advances to the Summit League Championship game at Dacotah Field on Sunday, taking on South Dakota State at 1 p.m.
