NDSU Men’s Golf Second After Day One in New York

VERONA, N.Y. – North Dakota State men’s golf opened up the 2024-25 season and the Red Bandanna Invitational on Sunday at the Kaluhyat Golf Course, sitting in second place behind only host Boston College.
 
The Bison shot back-to-back rounds of 292 (+4) to sit at +8 overall, 11 shots behind Boston College in the 11-team field.
 
Ian Simonich led the way for the Bison, firing a 71 in round one with a 74 in the second round to sit at +1 in a tie for 6th overall, three shots off the individual lead. Simonich had 15 pars in the first round with birdies on the 11th and 14th holes. In the second round he added one birdie on the 6th but had three bogeys on the back nine.
 
Freshman Sean Moore was one of two Bison to make their collegiate debut. Moore led the Bison after 18 holes after firing a 70 in the first round with a bogey-free round and back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes. More had two more birdies in the second round but had six bogeys for a 76 to fall back to a tie for 10th overall at +2.
 
Bison Rylin Petry (14th, +4), along with Jake Skarperud and Josh Galvin (16th, +5) all sit inside the top 20 of the 63-golfer field as well. Petry had three birdies on the day, including two in an even-par 72 second round. Skarperud had four birdies on the day, while Galvin led the Bison with six birdies, including three in an even par second round.
 
Gabe Benson also made his debut for the Bison, playing the event as an individual. Benson sits in a tie for 21st at +6. Benson had four birdies in the first round, matching Moore with a -2 round of 70. He added one birdie in the second round.
 
NDSU will wrap up the Red Bandanna Invitational on Monday with the third and final round. The Bison will tee off at 8 a.m.
