NDSU Men’s Golf Mid Pack After First Day of Throw Down Up Top

HOMER, Neb. – The North Dakota State men’s golf team opened up the Throw Down, Up Top event hosted by South Dakota on Monday at the Landmand Golf Club. The Bison shot +6 in the first round to sit 6th overall.
 
Rylin Petry led the way for the Bison, shooting a -1 round of 72 on the par-73 course. Petry started the day with six-straight pars before a birdie and then six more pars. Following a triple bogey on 14, he reeled off birdies on three of the final four holes to climb the leaderboard, sitting in 9th place with two rounds remaining.
 
Ian Simonich carded four birdies in an even-par round of 73 on the day to sit second for the Bison and in 16th overall in the 72-golfer field.
 
Jake Skarperud (+3) and Josh Galvin (+4) wrapped the scoring for NDSU on the first of three days. Skarperud matched Petry and Simonich with a team high four birdies, while Galvin finished with three. Sean Moore closed the day for NDSU with a +5 round of 78, also recording three birdies in his round.
 
Max Wilson and Carter Spalding played as individuals for NDSU, with Wilson firing a -1 round of 72 and Spalding shooting a 76. Wilson had three birdies and also an eagle on the par-5 15th, as he sits in a tie for 9th overall.
 
The Bison sit mid pack in the 12-team field. Creighton (-8), Loyola-Chicago (-1) and St. Thomas (-1) lead the team competition.
 
Round two of the Throw Down Up Top for North Dakota State will get underway Tuesday morning at Landmand. Tee times for the day are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
