Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Naytahwaush woman is facing a gross misdemeanor charge after prosecutors said she left treatment during a jail furlough.

Giselle Lee Lyons, 38, was charged with escape from custody. The case was filed in Mahnomen County District Court. The charge is tied to Minnesota Statute 609.485.

What the complaint says

According to the complaint, Lyons was already in custody on another criminal case. The complaint says Lyons received a furlough on January 28, 2026. The furlough was limited. It covered transport from Tri-County Community Corrections to a treatment center in Bemidji.

The court order said Lyons could be released to an approved treatment representative. The destination was Northern Minnesota Addiction Wellness Center in Bemidji. Court records said Lyons was taken there on January 29, 2026.

Prosecutors allege Lyons did not stay within that approved release. The complaint says treatment staff reported on February 17, 2026, that Lyons had left the program. Jail staff were then notified, according to the court filing.

The criminal complaint does not describe a struggle or a new arrest scene. Instead, it focuses on the claim that Lyons left custody without legal authority while on furlough. Under Minnesota law, escape can include leaving custody without permission or failing to return after temporary leave.

What happens next

This case is listed as a gross misdemeanor. The complaint says the maximum penalty is one year in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both. Charges are accusations, not convictions.

The case will now move through the court process unless it is resolved earlier. Readers can review court access information through the Minnesota Judicial Branch case records system.
