BELTRAMI COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Authorities have arrested 24-year-old Thomas Humiston, a suspected child predator accused of sexually abusing two minors across multiple states, including Minnesota, California, and Nevada.
The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) in California launched an investigation after receiving a suspected child abuse report from Alpine County Child Protective Services (CPS). The report detailed allegations of sexual misconduct involving two young victims, aged 8 and 10, with Humiston identified as the suspect.
Crimes Spanning Multiple States
Authorities uncovered a disturbing pattern:
- The alleged abuse had been occurring for approximately three years in Beltrami County, Minnesota, before continuing in the Hung A Lel Ti Native American Community in Alpine County, California.
- Investigators in Beltrami County developed probable cause that Humiston committed felony sex crimes in Minnesota.
- Federal authorities were contacted due to the severity of the allegations and the interstate nature of the offenses.
- Additional evidence suggested that Humiston may have been in possession of and distributing digital Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
Nationwide Arrest and Capture
On January 28, 2025, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Humiston. The warrant included two felony counts of 1st Degree Penetration or Contact with a Person under 13.
Two days later, on January 30, 2025, a coordinated effort led to Humiston’s arrest:
- Investigators from Alpine County, Douglas County, and the FBI, along with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children taskforce, executed a search warrant at his residence in Douglas County, Nevada.
- Before they could serve the warrant at his home, Douglas County investigators located and arrested Humiston at an AMPM gas station on Waterloo.
Ongoing Investigation and Call for Information
Humiston remains in custody and is awaiting extradition to Beltrami County, Minnesota, where he will face felony sex crime charges.
